John Makepeace
John Makepeace – Furniture Designer & Maker. John first developed a love of fine furniture over 60 years ago. By the time he was just fourteen years old he had made his first piece, and by sixteen he was regularly making simple pieces as commissions, and went on to design furniture for the likes of Heals and Liberty’s. He views his hands as mechanical tools, and his drawing is more about thinking through form, structure and expression. He is known for taking the art of lamination to a form of high art, using multiple curved layers to generate shapes influenced by behavioural patterns and the human form. He now works on unique pieces, some taking up to three months to complete, for museums and private clients.
