Fred Paulley - Hedge Layer

The images used in this blog are not the ones I will be using for the final show, they are alternates used basically because it seems daft to have a photography blog without images.

There are quite a lot of hedge layers round my neck of the woods, but I wanted to find one who had been at it for a long time, and Fred at a sprightly 80+ was a perfect subject. It was a bitterly cold day and I’m always worried my subjects will freeze if I drag them outside in search of light, but of course Fred is as tough as old boots and had been working on the land for over 60 years in all weathers. Sticking his hands in a bush for a photograph on a cold December day may have been a little strange for him, but he wasn’t in the least bit fazed by the plummeting temperature.
